► (n. 1922) Director cinematográfico francés. En su cine, perfectamente construido, se aprecia una constante temática: el valor y la importancia del recuerdo dentro de la vida humana. Se dio a conocer a partir de Noche y niebla (1955), un mediometraje sobre los campos de concentración nazis. Premio en el Festival de Venecia de 1961 por El año pasado en Marienbad. Su interés por la renovación formal es visible en sus obras I want to go home (1989) y Smoking, no Smoking (1993). Más tarde dirigió Conocemos la canción (1997) y En la boca, no (2003).

Director de cine francés. Después de estudiar en IDHEC, la escuela de cine de París, realizó cortos sobre las artes pictóricas, como Van Gogh (1948) y documentales entre los que se cuenta Noche y niebla (1956). Su primera película, Hiroshima mon amour (1959), causó furor al alternar el pasado con el futuro, y es considerado uno de los primeros y más importantes filmes de la nouvelle vague. Continuó explorando los temas complejos del tiempo y la memoria en El año pasado en Marienbad (1961). Algunas de sus posteriores películas son Muriel (1963), Stavisky (1974), Mi tío de América (1980), El amor ha muerto (1984), Quiero volver a casa (1989), Smoking/No Smoking (1993) y Conozco la canción (1997).
